Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make wine that tastes as good as the best commercial wines?
Our kits compare with commercial wine costing that much more. Our wine products are formulated to mimic some of the most popular wine available on the commercial market.
Can I sample the wine before buying?
Our industry falls under the control of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), and current laws do not allow us to provide samples of our products. However, because you are not allowed to “test drive” your wine beforehand, You can place your order risk free. If for any reason, you are not satisfied with the wine you have made, we will help you find a wine you will like or refund your money.
How do I know what quality of wine kit to make?
All we really need to help you make the best choice of product is the brand and varietal of the wine you drink now. We can take this information and suggest the most comparable product that we have to offer based on flavour profiles, body and sweetness levels. We don’t believe that jumping to the top tier product is the best solution for everyone. Wine is personal and we have many products that will meet your flavour preferences.
How many bottles does a kit make?
Most products make 23 litres or 30 - 750 mL bottles. With the exception of Dessert wines which make 11.5 litres or 15 - 750ml bottles.
What are the best conditions to store wine?
If you intend to age the bottled wine for a long time, it is important to have a cool, dark and dry environment (50 – 64 F). In these conditions, the wine will gently mature at an ideal rate. If the storage conditions become too warm, the wine will mature rapidly.
How long does it take to make a batch of wine?
The time required to make a batch of wine varies depending on the product you choose. We have both four week and six week wine products. These times are the minimum length of time it take to produce the wine. You can begin drinking your wine right away or choose to age it for a few months to give it time to develop more character.
How much involvement will I have in making my own batch of wine in store?
In our industry, two visits by you to our business are required by law. Your first visit is to place your wine order. This is when we will discuss the type of wine you are interested in producing. Once you have decided on a wine, we will gather some basic information and mix up all of the ingredients. At that time you will sprinkle the yeast onto the juice and it will begin to ferment. We take care of the racking, stabilizing, clarifying and filtering of your wine. Your second visit will be to package or “bottle” your wine. This is where you will wash and sanitize your bottles, fill them and cork them. If you chose, you can then apply bottle labels and matching shrink tops, and of course, you may sample your wine.
*You also have the options to purchase your wine product and produce it at home if you have your own equipment*
